I just had a phone call from a conference organizer wanting to pick
my brains about what was new in KM and how to improve their KM
events. I won't go into the what's new bit here but I did point her
to a page on my website where I talk about creating "Participatory
Conferences"
Its a page I have been adding to over the last year that is a
collection of notes as to how to make conferences better learning and
networking environments.
I have, over recent years, spoken at, attended, chaired or run
knowledge cafes at very many conferences and apart from a one or two
notable exceptions have been appalled at the design of the events.
Too often, talks are packed in back to back, often in multi-streams
with little or no time for questions and answers and genuine
discussion - never mind - networking among the participants.
Speakers are not sufficiently briefed or disciplined and run over
time; insufficient time is allowed for coffee breaks and for lunch
and no time is built in to the day for conversation and reflection.
What's worse is that these conferences are about 'learning and
knowledge management' - the organizers are just not walking the talk!
So this page is one that is continually under development and
captures and disseminates some ideas and tools for making conferences
more interactive, participatory and engaging and thus better learning
environments.

You wont believe it! I receive the phone call from the conference
organizer and update the page on my page on Participatory
Conferences. A scheduled agent running on my website then updates my
Website feed and David Wilcox reads the post via the feed and blogs
in response in his weblog. He then mails me to tell me he has done
so.
And I still have not finished the newsletter. And all within about 2
hours. Amazing! I just can't keep up LOL

Back in June 2006, I wrote a thought leader for InsideKnowledge
Magazine published by the Ark Group and consequently they asked me to
write a regular monthly article for them. We dubbed this the "Gurteen
Perspective" and they publish these each month online where you can
read them even if you do not subscribe to the magazine.

If you publish RSS Feeds then take a look at Feedburner - its an
amazing service! I am still kicking myself for not taking more notice
of it earlier.
Not only does it do a tremendous job of enhancing and customizing
your feeds and making it super easy for people to subscribe. It also
keeps track of subscribers and hits - something you cannot do with a
regular feed.
I am slowly converting all my feeds. You can see the ones I have
converted so far below. Click on one and rather than seeing the
usually gobbledegook of a feed you will see a nice webpage rendition
of the feed:

What has amazed me, now that I can track subscribers is that I may
have double the number of website readers than I thought. For
example, I am getting about 30 new subscribers to my website feed
each day! That's 3 times the number that sign up for my community
each day!
************** MY IPOD AS A PERSONAL LEARNING TOOL **************
I've talked before about how much I love my video iPod - not for the
music but for the video podcasts! Take a look at TEDTalks. These
video talks are BRILLIANT - I just LOVE them.

Every time I sync my iPod I get a few more downloaded - I don't even
think about it and then on train or plane I discover and watch them.
So easy and the TED talks in particular are SO inspiring. Its a great
way to learn.

************************ TWITTERING AWAY ************************
I have modified my website to include a neat little gizmo from
Twitter.
Take a look at almost any page on my website and you will find a
panel at the top right-hand side of the screen that includes a photo
of me, a link to my contact details, my Skype status and a short
message about what I am doing.
The short message is provided by a service called Twitter. What is
cool about this is that I can not only update the message online via
Twitter from any PC but I can also update the status from my mobile
phone. I talk a little more about how I do this below.

February's lead topic in the forum is: "What are the bottom line
benefits of being knowledge-driven in an organization?" Thanks to
Peter Anthony for suggesting it.
Many of us are from different positions in different types and sizes
of organization, with different points of view and experience, so,
well... What do you think?

Now here is a really interesting new service from Yahoo - Yahoo Pipes.
They allow you to easily mix, match, filter, sort and merge data

in Vienna from 27 to 28 August 2007.
The conference brings together developers, scholars, academics and
users in different areas of knowledge management and serves as a
