The old adage "knowledge is power" was given new meaning last month when the National Gas Company played its part in commemorating 100 years of commercial oil production in Trinidad and Tobago. The Company, better known for its pivotal role in the natural gas business, went public, in style, with its "Knowledge Café" concept, to Point Fortin and Port of Spain.
Knowledge Management guru David Gurteen defines a Knowledge Café as a means of bringing people together to have an open creative conversation on a topic of mutual interest to share ideas and to gain a deeper collective understanding of the subject and the issues involved. Over the last two years the NGC Information Services Department has been hosting monthly in-house sessions of the Knowledge Café. The Company uses these sessions as part of its employee awareness and education strategy. Ann More Spencer- NGC Head Information services said that when the Minister of Energy approached NGC to be part of the oil centennial celebrations, the public Knowledge Café seemed an appropriate vehicle.
