Erich Fromm was born in 1900 and died in 1980. He was a psychoanalyst, a noted social scientist and best selling author. Some of his best works include The Art of Loving, Psychoanalysis, Zen Buddhism and Fear of Freedom. He studied sociology and psychology at the University of Heidelberg, Frankfurt and Munich and then trained to be a psychoanalyst at the Psychoanalytical Institute of Berlin. He devoted himself to consultant psychology and theoretical investigation for many years and was Terry Lecturer at Yale University and lectured at Columbia Bennington; the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry and the National University of Mexico.
