To: Gurteen Knowledge Community Members near Oxford
I would like to invite you to a free Gurteen Knowledge Cafe in Harwell (near Oxford) on the evening of 24th October.
I have been running Knowledge Cafes all over the world for the last ten
years. They grew out of my frustration with death-by-powerpoint,
chalk-and-talk type presentations. A Knowledge Cafe is different.
In a Knowledge Cafe, the speaker normally only speaks for 5 - 10 minutes
without slides and poses a questions to the participants (not the
audience!) that is then discussed for the remainder of the Cafe.
This conversational approach a far more interesting and engaging way to
learn than "sitting listening". It also is a wonderful format for informal
networking.
I have run open Knowledge Cafes regularly in London since September 2002. An open Cafe is hosted by
an organization who sees the value in the Cafes and the Cafe is open to anyone who
cares to come along. My open Knowledge Cafes are totally free.
You never know what you might learn, who you might meet and what might
come of the evening. And if you are more of a listener than a talker then
that's OK too ... in a Cafe you are not compelled to do anything you don't
want to do. Just turn up and enjoy the evening.
So come along on 24th October. It is totally free.
