Banner Ads

Most pages on this site carry a banner ad at the top right hand corner of the page. Some pages have no ad, some have a fixed ad associated with that page but most have an ad that has been selected at random from a small pool of banner ads. You may check this by refreshing this page - where you should see a different banner ad displayed each time. Typically there are only 6 or so ads in the pool.

You should note that some ads are sponsored while others are ones that I have chosen to display because I believe in the cause of their associated organizations.

Also note, I track the statistics for most banner ads but in some cases for technical reasons e.g. Flash banners or where the tracking takes place remotely, I am unable to do this.

The click-through rate (CTR) is obtained by dividing the number of impressions delivered, by the number of users who clicked on it. As of today (August 2005), a good CTR for a banner-ad is considered to be 0.2%.

Banner Ads can be in text or image (jpg or gif) format and must conform to the standard 468w x 60h pixels and their file size must be absolutely no more than 25k bytes.
