With some Knowledge and Information Management Professionals now earning in excess of US$100k p.a., the role is increasingly seen as being an essential multi-faceted function.
Yet, as the spectre of artificial intelligence and machine learning looms large and with the imminent release of a set of KM Standards by the International Standards Organisation (ISO) today's Knowledge Manager is facing a complex future. Effective Knowledge Managers will need a mix of soft and technical skills as well as a good working knowledge of their business. This Masterclass will demonstrate frameworks, tools and techniques to equip today's Knowledge Manager for tomorrow.
The Masterclass leader Paul J Corney will focus on the critical 8 ‘ates (skills) contained in his co-authored book “Navigating the Minefield: A Practical KM Companion” published in 2017 by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and featured in an address given to the annual conference of the Chartered Institute of Library & Information Professionals UK (CILIP) in 2016. He will also refer to experiences from assignments over 20+ years in KM as well as his participation on the BSI KM Standards Committee and as an advisor to global businesses.
Learning Outcomes
The Masterclass will provide delegates with:
An understanding of the drivers that influence the Knowledge Manager role.
An understanding of the competencies that make an effective Knowledge Manager.
An understanding of the reasons why many Knowledge Management programs fail.
An approach for meeting the future skill sets of a Knowledge Manager.
Video: Conference Conversations: KC UK 2007
One thing a chairperson can easily do at a conference do make them more engaging and interactive is to allow the participants to have a short conversation with each other after a speaker has finished their talk but before entering the Q&A.
Here is a short video of people doing this at the Ark Groups KC UK Conference in London in June 2007.
It works amazingly well.
