**** The Gurteen Knowledge-Letter (Issue 82, 16 April 2007) ****
Its been a busy few weeks. I was in Scottsdale Arizona advising on
running a series of Knowledge Cafes at the InfoWorld Buying & Selling
eContent conference just a few weeks back. I was In Moscow last week
running a Knowledge Cafe at KM Russia 2007 and now I am in Jakarta to
run a two day Knowledge Sharing workshop for a client.
While in Jakarta, I am running a Knowledge Cafe and have been amazed
by the huge interest - about 120 people have signed up for it - a few
too many for the way I normally run my cafes so its going to be fun
tweaking it a little to handle the number!
So forgive a short knowledge letter this month as I write it from my
hotel room. I still find it incredible that I can work from anywhere
in the world!

*************** GOOGLE CUSTOMISED SEARCH ENGINES ***************
Check out iGoogle Co-op which allows you to build your own customized
search engine. I have built one for KM that you will find it here
http://www.gurteen.com/gurteen/gurteen.nsf/id/gcse
and you will also find it embedded on most pages of my website.
It searches the over 800 websites that my website links to as this
seemed a good start. I wrote a short progam to compile the list from
my site and you can see it on the search page above.
Try it out - to my mind it does a pretty good job by filtering out
most non-KM stuff :-)
Also take a look at what Chris Riemer has been up to
http://tinyurl.com/2gpg9w
There is also a German search engine searching 144 sites

******************* TWITTERING AND JAIKUING! *******************
Twitter has been getting a lot of press and there is another similar
service called Jaiku from an outfit in Finland that I have yet to
check out. Here is what they say about it
Jaiku's main goal is to bring people closer together by enabling them
to share their presence. For us, presence is about everyday things as
they happen - what you're up to, how you're feeling, where you're
going. We offer a way to connect with the people you care about by
sharing presence updates with them on the Web and mobile.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter
Its worth taking a look at both these services if you are interested
in keeping up with the evolution of social tools.
**************** DAVE SNOWDEN AND ROBUST DEBATE ****************
It was my pleasure to spend a few days with Dave Snowden at KM Russia
2007 in Moscow last week though not too sure if he will ever forgive
me for telling him he needed to wear a suit. If you have not seen
Dave in a suit - see here for a treat
http://www.flickr.com/photos/gurteen/455201483/
Two good things came from our meeting - first I was reminded how much
admire Dave's thinking and his views on KM. Do read his weblog if you
are not familiar with his work:
http://www.cognitive-edge.com
And second a better understanding of our differing views on dialogue
verses debate. Dave loves to remind me that I have "fluffy bunny"
tendencies as he puts it :-)
As a result of our conversation, including Raj Datta who was also at
the conference, Dave has posted an interesting item here on his blog
that explains his liking of robust debate. For those of you who have
seen Dave talk or seen him involved in debate in a discussion forum
and have difficulty with his forthright style - do read - you will
understand him a lot better :-)

******************* CHIEF NETWORKING OFFICER! *******************
I recently came across this question on LinkedIn Answers thanks to
Clive Skinner
Is your company ready to have a CNO - Chief Networking Officer ?
A CNO is a mega business networks manager inside the organization. In
other words, this professional aligns corporate mission, vision,
unique value proposition, goals, core competences, key success
factors etc... with an efficient management of all and every network
and their respective actors aiming consistent growth while creating
long term win-win partnerships with all related networks and business
players. Please express your opinion.
Its an interesting concept but I think its the last thing an
organization should do! Take a look there are 43 answers posted
